Hi everyone, we have been a little slow getting started this year so we will be adding a lot over a short time.

Stu Duvall
In week one we were so lucky to have Stu Duvall in our school giving us tips on how to be amazing writers.

Stu is really funny and he tells wonderful stories that are funny and exciting. He is really good at using different voices.

Stu also is a great drawer and every time he comes to o ur school he draws a pisture to go with the story he is going to tell us.

His story this time called The Flax Cross, but he said that was just the working title.

Here is the picture he drew

Hints and Tips

A story has to be about something

Turn ordinary items into fantastical things e.g biting handbag/paper clip

Why?????????? Always ask WHY

Why would a handbag bite why isn’t its rightful owner

WHERE DO I IMAGINE I AM

Rain forest late afternoon when daylight was getting tired it was windy and cold-

In the darkest, coldest heart of the rain forest danger was approaching. Animals scattered, chattering noisy alarm signals. They  couldn’t see it, but they  could feel that was big, dark and bad….

Try playing background music. Movie sound track,

Use 5 doors as 5 possible ways the story can go

An action---the door opened slowly.

Reaction Tanya froze she jumped out the window

More action don’t stop the action.  What happened next, .. Tanya tripped on …

A hook without bait won’t catch a fish. ARM is the bait.

Don’t start your story with a weather report, e.g. One sunny day… grab your reader by their nose hairs

Start at the end first???

Write the final sentence. You may or may not use it but it could give you direction.
